I just had this idea… What if today we all decided that even while trying an egg, washing dishes, driving to and from work, at work, with the kids, your partner, friends, parents, friends, co-workers (even the ones you do not like), with total strangers, at the coffee shop, buying stuff, taking a shower, walking the dog outside, sharing with someone, cooking…. anything, we did it with our total attention to it, our full intention to do it with loving excellence?

What amazing change would we experience in our life, even so, what impact would it create as it spread like wildfire from one to another?

We go by life, not living it. We just glide through it, not existing and truly enjoying it at it’s fullest. Then we look back and time has passed, we are older, the kids are adults, our parents no longer with us and so on. Practical Advice To Be More Present

A great skill to learn is that of being more present. Being present is simply being focused on your environment and your current task. It means that your mind isn’t thinking about anything else other than what is right in front of you.

There are so many great benefits that come from being present in the moment. For example, it’s relaxing! It’s about the only time your brain isn’t buzzing along thinking about 20 different things. You get to actually live your life, as opposed to either thinking about the past or the future. And you’re far more productive, too.

These techniques can help you live more fully in the present:

  1. Pay attention to what is going on around you. If you’re not actively engaged in doing something productive, take a good look at what’s going on around you. Suppose you’re taking a walk. Notice everything: the cars driving by, the trees blowing in the wind, various animals scurrying around, the clouds, and more. See everything.
  • Listen to everything. What can you hear? How many different sounds can you pick out?
  • What can you feel? The warm air moving across your arm? A sore foot? The ground beneath your feet? Your cold hands?
  • What can you smell?
  • In general, if you’re not really doing something then you should be focused on your surroundings. Because, at that moment, that’s your life.
  1. Focus on your current task. If you’re mowing the grass, focus on mowing the grass. If you’re writing a report, focus on writing the report. Your mind should stay on task. It takes practice to do it reasonably well, so practice all the time. When you start thinking about something else, gently come back to the task and let go of your previous thought.
    • You’ll get so much more accomplished when you’re focused on your task. You’ll also eliminate worry and stress. How can you be stressed if you’re only thinking about what is in front of you? There’s no room for stress.
  2. If you’re having a hard time focusing on your work or environment, focus on your breathing. Your breath is like a constant in the universe; it’s always with you. It also helps to get your brain and body in sync. Focus on your breathing and don’t let your mind wander. When it does wander, gently bring it back to your breath.
  • After 10-15 minutes, you should be ready to transition to focusing on something else.
  1. Practice all the time. Make a game out of it. See if you can wash the dishes without thinking one stray thought; even thinking about how glad you’ll be when it’s done would be a stray thought. Do this with everything that you do, all day long.
  2. At night, focus on your breathing. Lying in bed is a great opportunity for most people to get themselves all worked up. We think about how horrible work was or about how we have so much to do tomorrow. None of this has ever helped anyone. Focus on your breathing until you fall asleep.

Make the effort to be more present. You’ll be amazed at how much better you feel and how much more you can get done. It’s not easy at first. Think of it as exercise for your brain. With practice, you’ll get a little better each day. Keep at it; the rewards are worth it!

11 Ways to Enhance Your Feelings of Self-Worth

Happiness is elusive without a sense of self-worth. If you’re not happy with yourself, how can you be happy about life in general? Self-worth is about believing that you have value as a person. It’s not how you compare to others. It’s your belief in your intrinsic value as a human being. We’re all important. Some of us just require a little more convincing than others.

Maximize your feelings of self-worth:

  1. Forgive yourself. You have plenty of guilt and resentment toward yourself that you’ve been carrying around for years. You chose the wrong major in college or broke up with your significant other via text. Give yourself a break and vow to do better in the future.
  2. Spending your time in a valuable and selfless way is a quick means to raise your opinion about yourself. Just two hours a week has been shown to make a difference.

  3. Avoid gossiping. Gossip probably has gotten you in trouble in the past, and you know you shouldn’t do it. Try pointing out positive traits and actions in others, instead. You’ll both feel better!
  4. Face a few of your smaller fears. We feel bad that we’re afraid of things that we know we shouldn’t fear. Face a few small fears and overcome them. You’ll be impressed with yourself.
  5. Set personal boundaries and enforce them. There’s no reason to allow others to use or manipulate you. Decide what you consider to be reasonable behavior and enforce it. Word will spread, and your life will be smoother.
  6. Set goals you can achieve. It’s important to have big goals, but small goals are important, too. Big goals lead to big accomplishments, but smaller goals can provide a great lift to your self-worth. Make it easy to succeed on a regular basis. Completing your daily to-do list is an example of completing a smaller goal.
  7. Define your values and live by them. It’s important to determine what you’re willing to do and what you’re not willing to do, as well as what’s important and unimportant to you. If you’re able to live by these values, you won’t have a reason to think badly of yourself.
  • Most people don’t take the time to define their values. They rely on a vague sense of right and wrong from childhood. Give it some thought and put your ideas down on paper. When you’re stuck with a tough decision, pull out the list.
  1. Be willing to make changes in your life. The same life will provide the same results. Some changes will be necessary if your goal is to enhance your self-worth.
  2. Voice your opinion. Do you keep your opinion to yourself because you think no one cares? Maybe you put everyone else’s happiness above your own. Neither is good for your self-image. Your opinion matters. Share it.
  3. Minimize time spent with others who don’t appreciate you. Do you have a friend or family member that drags down your self-worth? Think about letting them go or spending less time with them.
  4. Make decisions. Indecisiveness creates stress and frustration. It’s also a way of avoiding responsibility. Take a reasonable amount of time and then pull the trigger. You’ll feel more in control of your life.

When you think negatively about yourself, you lower your expectations. You even begin to look for reasons to support those thoughts. This is the ultimate in self-defeating behaviors. Your feelings of self-worth influence your ability to be happy and successful. Be proud of who you are as a person. Life will be easier and more enjoyable.

10 Ways to Deal With High Stress

We all have days that are considerably more challenging and stressful than others. Unfortunately, stress is hard on both the mind and body.

Too many high stress days can really take its toll. And what’s worse, you could even become so used to being in this “high state of alert” that you start to feel like it’s normal! Don’t let this happen to you.

It’s important to develop some techniques that help you relieve stress and strengthen your self-soothing abilities.

When you’re struggling to stay calm, relaxed, and focused, try some of these strategies:

  1. Breathe deeply. Breathe in for 5 seconds and hold it for 5 seconds. Now exhale for 5 seconds. Do this 10 times and focus only on your breathing. These breaths should only be slightly larger in volume than a normal, relaxed breath.
  2. Take a walk. Practice the breathing technique above during your walk, focusing on your breathing, walking, and surroundings. Nothing else should enter your mind. If your mind insists on wandering to non-productive thinking, you might have to simply keep repeating, “Taking a step” to yourself over and over.
  3. Get some exercise. Any time of day is a good time to exercise. Comfortably tired is what you’re looking for. Work out your frustrations by going for a run or swim. Hit the weights and show them who is boss. Any exercise will do as long as there is some intensity involved. Shuffleboard isn’t going to cut it.
  4. Sit outside. A little time at the beach or park can work wonders. Find a relaxing spot with pleasant scenery. Pay attention to what’s going on around you and keep your mind off your challenges. Even 10 to 15 minutes can greatly reduce your stress.
  5. Take a day off. Everyone needs a break once in a while. However, on your day off, it’s important to avoid just sitting around and brooding about all of your current difficulties. Take your mind off of things and have some fun. Lose yourself in activities that you enjoy.
  6. Find something engrossing to read. The ideal book would be able to take your mind off of things for a few hours. Ask your friends for some recommendations, or if you’re like most people, you probably have a couple of books on the shelf that you’ve never gotten around to. Now is the perfect time to read it.
  7. Listen to music. Again, it should be something engrossing that really captures your attention. Don’t be afraid to get up and dance; no one is watching anyway.
  8. No phone and no computer. Turn off everything that connects you to the outside world. Then you can really relax. Stay offline for as long as you can.
  9. Take a nap. There’s no better way to start over than to take a nap. When you wake up, it feels like another chance to start your day over. What happened before your nap is in the past! Now you can deal with it and move on.
  10. Hang out with people that are fun. Get the gang together and meet for a drink. Or have dinner with the friend that always makes you laugh. It’s easy to get caught up in our own little world. Being with others can jolt you out of that perspective.

Don’t let high stress get you down. The key is to actively do something about it. Some people develop a habit of being paralyzed when things start going sideways, but this does nothing to make you feel better or solve your stressful issues.

Actively relax so you’ll be better able to tackle your challenges. Use these tips to minimize the pressure and anxiety you’re feeling and take control of yourself and the situation. Dealing with your challenges effectively is crucial to living the peaceful life you deserve.
